When you go to a business website, how long are you willing to wait for the home page to load? In the current internet scenario, you shouldn't wait more than 3 to 5 seconds. (Even less time on a web enabled phone!)
Think about it.
Your customer gets the urge to check out your site because you have the 'thingamajig' that they have been looking for. So they find you! They click on your link. And they wait. And wait. And wait.
To better use their time while waiting for your digital front door to present itself, they jump over to the Facebook tab they already have open in their browser. I don't need to tell you what happens next because we've all done it, but for the sake of the scenario, I will...
Now immersed in their Facebook culture, your customer doesn't notice that your home page has finally loaded and is ready to impress them. The seconds turn into minutes or more.
The phone rings. With the social media page still up, your customer steps away from you, back into their environment. Your moment is passed. Even if they come back to their browser, it's already on company email, LinkedIn, or whatever. Time to sound taps on your lost opportunity. Better luck next time.
