Communication and Planning are the Keys to Unlock a Successful Business Website

by Dorothy Mowbray

The other day I was talking to a business owner who was all upset about her new website.  She complained, "I can't believe the company I hired put my website on WordPress!"  "Didn't you have a contract that detailed what platform they were going to use?” I questioned.   "Well yes, it did say WordPress in the contract.  But, I thought they would use some other template.” I automatically shook my head with a bewildered look.

How could this important point be in writing, signed, and still have missed the mark?  Miscommunication plagues many things, but especially rapidly changing technological fields.  With so much 'new language' and often misunderstood or vague use of the terms, there needs to be a lot of communication to ensure that everyone is really talking about the same thing.  Don't fall into the trap of using all the buzz words without clarifying that both parties are really talking about the same thing.

That's why at ROAR! Internet Marketing our first step of business website design involves thorough research, brainstorming and planning things on paper first - long before a piece of code is written!  Multiple meetings are held with clients to ensure that they understand what the website will do and more importantly what it won't do.  What kind of care and feeding it will require after it goes live is reviewed as well.  We try our best to hammer out all these possible missed expectations before anything is built, thus avoiding delays and costly wasted build-outs!  You would never think of skipping the architect / blueprint phase of building a home.  So, why would you skip this kind of planning process for your business website  design?

As with any comprehensive project, the devil is in the details. Small steps to record, review, and acknowledge a project's deliverables can have big savings in time, effort and frustration.

We would love to have a real conversation about your business website design needs and our capabilities.  It all starts with good communication and planning!
